Thursday night will reveal the fate of numerous Detroit Red Wings fans, similar to what some Pistons fans experienced the previous month. Unless there are alterations to Fox Sports Detroit, it won’t be long before Tigers fans share the same unfortunate realization—they won’t have access to watch their beloved team.

Fans who rely on streaming services like Hulu or YouTubeTV will unfortunately be unable to watch the Red Wings’ season opener against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday.

The reason behind this is a disagreement in renewing the contracts of the streaming services with Sinclair Broadcast Group, which is the parent company of a regional cluster of sports channels including Fox Sports Detroit.

The imminent launch of Michigan’s online sports betting platform is expected to significantly affect the total revenue of the sports betting industry, particularly in terms of in-game wagers.

Fox Sports Detroit offers Red Wings’ fans a solution

GetMyHomeTeams.com, a campaign by Fox Sports Detroit, is encouraging customers to switch providers through its various social network channels.

By clicking on the link, fans can visit a website that allows them to switch their cable carriers to options like AT&T TV, DIRECTV, and Xfinity. Although Fox Sports Detroit may be available in higher sports tiers for some of these companies, it’s still good to know that they can be accessed.

Sinclair’s contracts with Hulu and YouTube expired in September and October, respectively. Fubo TV, on the other hand, is a streaming service that currently lacks an agreement with Sinclair.

According to the FAQ section on the website, it states that fair offers have been extended to these streaming providers, just as we have done with numerous others. Unfortunately, it seems that they are not prioritizing the needs of sports fans.

Subscribers of Comcast or DISH Network in Colorado are experiencing a similar dispute, resulting in the unavailability of Altitude TV for Denver Nuggets and Avalanche fans.

According to Ian St. Clair of PlayColorado, there seems to be no resolution in sight for the ongoing “childish squabble”.

How to watch the Detroit Red Wings in 2021 (Hint: NBC)

Even though they face challenges, the Red Wings will continue to receive national television coverage for 10 games this season, with three of them being aired on NBC.

Nevertheless, blackout rules will continue to be enforced for certain games that are broadcasted on FSD.

Streaming fans have the option to potentially watch a variety of games.

  • The match against Columbus will take place on January 18th at noon, and will be televised on NBCSN.
  • On January 24th, NBC will broadcast live from Chicago at 12:30 p.m.
  • The date is February 3 and the event is taking place at Tampa Bay. It will be broadcasted on NBCSN at 5:30 p.m.
  • The game against Chicago will take place on February 7th at 7:30 p.m. It will be televised on NBCSN.

Is there any alternative for Red Wings fans who are longing for their team? (Apart from continually playing this YouTube video, of course.)

Why You Can’t Watch The Red Wings On Hulu, YouTubeTV 2

Unfortunately, unless the parties reach an agreement, there is not much hope. If you truly desire to watch the Red Wings this season or Fox Sports Detroit in general, you may need to reconsider your decision to cancel your cable subscription.
