There is now a third choice available for Michigan horse racing enthusiasts who wish to make online wagers.

The Michigan Gaming Control Board announced on Wednesday that Xpress Bet has been granted a temporary license to accept bets.

Xpress Bet has now joined TVG and TwinSpires, making it the third advance deposit wagering platform accessible in Michigan.

Horse wagering from your phone is now possible with the inclusion of ADW. This functionality was made available through the expanded gambling laws that were signed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in December 2019. Additionally, this legislation also facilitated online sports betting and internet gaming, both of which were launched on January 22.

Xpress owned by Canadian company 1/ST

Xpress Bet, under the management of Ontario-based company 1/ST, has entered into a partnership with Northville Downs, the sole horse racing track in Michigan. The specific details of the agreement have not been disclosed. This collaboration has been necessitated by the introduction of new legislation.

1/ST has become the inaugural Canadian operator to receive approval in Michigan for online wagering, making it the first of its kind to offer horse racing bets in the state.

TVG, a division of the FanDuel Group, launched in June, while TwinSpires of Churchill Downs Technology Initiatives Co. went live in September, right before the postponed 2020 Kentucky Derby.

According to a statement by MGCB Executive Director Richard Kalm, horse racing enthusiasts in Michigan can now enjoy a new opportunity for placing bets on horse races using mobile wagering. This development offers fans more options for convenient betting providers, and the horse racing industry anticipates gaining additional funding through this betting format.

A 1% tax is imposed by the state of Michigan on wagers that are processed through third-party facilitators.

On its traditional date of May 1, the Kentucky Derby will commence the start of the 2021 Triple Crown season.
