NCAA Odds: Michigan Wolverines at Wisconsin Badgers

Sportsbooks torn on Michigan-Wisconsin odds

Sportsbooks in Michigan are currently undecided about Saturday’s game, with some only offering an over/under total for the match.

DraftKings Sportsbook has listed Michigan as a 1-point favorite for their road game, while FanDuel Sportsbook considers the Wolverines as a slight underdog with a ½-point disadvantage on the road.

Currently, the moneylines are essentially a pick ’em, allowing you to confidently place a straight-up bet on a side without concerning yourself with excessive juice on the game.

There is consensus among oddsmakers regarding the total points, as the over/under is universally set at 43.5 points.

Michigan has covered the spread in three out of four games, while the under has been successful in three out of four as well. On the other hand, Wisconsin has only covered the spread in one out of three games, with the under hitting twice.

Michigan has a historical record of 51 wins, 17 losses, and 1 tie against Wisconsin. However, in the recent four matchups, the Badgers emerged victorious in three of them. Additionally, in the last seven meetings with Michigan, Wisconsin managed to cover the spread in six instances.

Wolverines hold off Rutgers to open Big Ten Conference play

On Saturday, Michigan managed to secure a hard-fought victory against Rutgers, their first Big Ten game of 2021, with a final score of 20-13.

At halftime, the Wolverines dominated with a 20-3 lead. However, in the second half, Rutgers managed to narrow the gap and make it a one-score game, surpassing the spread that had initially been set at around 20 points.

In the final moments of the game, Michigan’s defense stepped up and delivered. They successfully halted Rutgers’ offense on a crucial fourth down and managed to force a turnover in the following possession.

U-M should be worried about its offense encountering a major obstacle this week. The victory saw Michigan gain only 275 yards in total, with a mere 112 rushing yards on 38 attempts.

Michigan’s offense heavily leaned on the running game for success, but unfortunately, the passing game failed to compensate when the running game faltered.

In the game, Cade McNamara completed 9 out of 16 passes for a total of 163 yards. Blake Corum, on the other hand, struggled and only managed to gain 68 rushing yards from 21 carries. Hassan Haskins, however, came through for the team by scoring both touchdowns, rushing for 41 yards on 12 attempts.

Michigan creeping up futures boards

Despite not appearing overly impressive last week, Michigan managed to maintain their undefeated status.

Without a single loss, they have already completed 25% of the season, which is positively impacting their chances in future markets.

The University of Michigan began the season with odds of +8000 to secure the national championship. However, their current odds vary between +4000 (FanDuel) and +6600 (BetMGM Sportsbook).

After starting the season at +1700, DraftKings has updated the odds for Michigan to win the Big Ten title to +800.

Corum is firmly in the running for the Heisman Trophy, with his odds set at +5000 to win the prestigious award. So far this season, he has accumulated an impressive 475 rushing yards and scored seven touchdowns. Currently, Corum holds the ninth spot in the national rankings for rushing yards.

Wisconsin Badgers throttled by Notre Dame

On Saturday, Wisconsin faced a tough challenge and suffered a significant defeat with a score of 41-13 against No. 9 Notre Dame at Chicago’s Soldier Field.

Entering the fourth quarter, the game was evenly matched with a 10-1 tie. However, the Irish dominated the final quarter, scoring a remarkable 31 points. They managed to secure a touchdown through a kick return and added two more scores with interception returns. This impressive display helped the Irish establish a significant lead and secure the victory.

Graham Mertz’s performance fell short as the Wisconsin quarterback struggled. He completed only 18 of his 41 passing attempts, resulting in 240 yards. Despite managing to score one touchdown, he also threw an alarming four interceptions. Unfortunately, the sophomore has been unable to replicate the impressive skill he displayed during his freshman year. Notably, he led his team to victory against Michigan while playing away from home.

Wisconsin struggled to gain yards on the ground, accumulating only 75 yards on 29 carries. The leading rusher for Wisconsin this season has been Chez Mellusi, who has amassed 319 yards and two touchdowns.

Wisconsin possesses an admirable defense, currently limiting opponents to a mere 210.3 yards per game. Notably, they boast the best rushing defense in the country, allowing a meager 23 yards per match. However, their upcoming game against Michigan’s run-oriented offense will surely test their capabilities. A clash of strengths awaits, as one side’s dominance will ultimately prevail.
