Betting on Tigers games at Comerica Park

When Comerica Park opened in 2000, it wasn’t the friendliest ballpark in the majors for hitters. However, major dimensional changes have turned it into a much more hitter-friendly stadium. You should consider ballpark setup when betting on Tigers home games.

Comerica Park is still considered a big ballpark, but it began as a behemoth. Its 420-foot center field wall remains intact, but the left-field fence has been moved in to 370 feet from 395. There was a flagpole in play in the left-center field as an homage to the old Tiger Stadium, but it has since been moved out of play.

However, there’s a dirt stripe that goes from the pitcher’s mound to home plate, referred to as the “keyhole,” that remains. It is difficult to quantify the keyhole or flagpole’s effect on hitters.

The one thing we do know is that Comerica Park isn’t exactly as homer-friendly as Tiger Stadium once was. The upper-deck seating in the right field at Tiger Stadium dangled over the fence and collected baseballs. However, Comerica Park’s center field fence is 20 feet shorter, as Tiger Stadium was 440 feet from to straightaway center.

The bottom line: Comerica Park still looks like it has a massive outfield, but it plays a little smaller than it first did. Remember that when betting on games there, particularly in terms of totals and individual props.

Make sure the operating system on your iOS or Android device meets the minimum requirements. Then, you can download and install the sportsbook app of your choice from any sportsbook’s website. You’ll find sportsbook app links right here on Playinmichigan.

If you have an Android device, you’ll need to adjust your settings to allow app installations from sources outside of Google Play. Then you can download and install the app directly from an online sportsbook website.

Also, you’ll need to make sure the app can access your location. Otherwise, you may have to download geolocation software so the sportsbook can tell that you are in Michigan when you’re placing bets.

2. Sign up

You need to sign up for an account with the Michigan sportsbook app of your choice before you can place bets on or against the Tigers. Once you’ve downloaded the app, you can gather your personal information and tap the ‘Sign Up’ tab. That’ll take you to the registration page to enter that information. You should also note any promo or bonus code listed next to the link here on Playinmichigan, as you’ll need to enter that to guarantee the best bonus on offer.

3. Make a deposit

You can deposit money into your Michigan online sportsbook account through the app’s ‘Cashier’ tab. Simply choose from the list of available deposit methods, enter an amount, follow the prompts and fill in any details. Everything from credit and debit cards to online banking and even third-party payment processors such as PayPal should be available.

4. Browse and bet

Finally, browse through the available Detroit Tigers betting markets until you find something to bet on. You’ll find them under the “MLB” or “Baseball” tabs, either along the top or left-hand side.

Tapping on a bet will automatically create an online bet slip. Fill it out by entering betting amounts, adding other bets and possibly combining bets to make a parlay. You can play around with different amounts, as the bet slip will instantly display all potential payouts.

When you’re done, simply tap the ‘Place Bet’ tab to lock in your bets.

Detroit Tigers schedule

The Detroit Tigers play a traditional 162-game schedule. That means 19 games against each of the four other AL Central teams (76 games), six games against four other AL opponents and seven games against six other AL opponents (66 games). Another 20 interleague games will be played as well, rotating through a different division each year. The games will be split into one midweek series and one-weekend series every week throughout the six-month season.

The regular season runs from April through September followed by the MLB postseason. The World Series is scheduled to start on mid-late October and ends with a potential Game 7 no later than early Nov.

Tigers betting lines explained

Browsing through the MLB game lines at Michigan online sportsbooks, you’ll run into something that looks like this:

  • Detroit Tigers (M. Boyd) +1.5 (-130) +125 O 4.5 (-110)
  • Boston Red Sox (E. Rodríguez) -1.5 (+110) -150 U 4.5 (-110)

The names in brackets beside the teams are the projected starting pitchers. The numbers represent three different basic game lines.

First is the run line. Here, it’s the standard 1.5 run line, which is either deducted or added to a team’s score to determine a betting winner. The odds on the bets are in brackets and are either a negative (-) number on a $100 scale, representing how much you must bet to win $100 plus your bet back, or a positive (+) number, representing how much you can win, plus your bet back, on that scale.

Then, there’s moneyline betting, where you bet on the outright winner. Once again, there are negative (-) odds, representing how much you must bet to win $100 plus your bet back, or positive (+) odds, representing how much you can win, plus your bet back.

Finally, there’s the totals line, with the odds on totals bets in brackets. In this example, you’re placing a bet on whether the total combined runs scored will be five runs or more or four runs or less.

Tigers Vegas odds vs. online odds in MI

For the most part, the lines on Tigers games at online sportsbooks in Michigan will be the same as those inside traditional Las Vegas sportsbooks. However, Tigers lines can occasionally be more susceptible to movement at Michigan online sportsbooks than anywhere else.

That’s because line movement usually stems from more money being bet on one side or the other, and when one sportsbook moves a line, others don’t necessarily follow suit. Local interest drives betting, which means there’s more money bet locally on the Tigers than elsewhere, and, therefore, a bigger chance a Tigers line will move at Michigan sportsbooks than at a traditional Las Vegas sportsbook.

Tigers live betting

Live betting opens up a variety of increased betting opportunities to you. It gives you the chance to hedge bets, make up for mistakes and increase your action betting on live odds that change alongside the action in the game.

These are mostly the same markets you’re betting on before the game, but live betting markets can also include inning-by-inning bets and more prop bets at odds that are changing constantly based on score, inning and momentum. These things can all change fast, which means Michigan sports betting apps are the best way to get a bet down quickly. You can’t keep up in quite the same way when you wait in line at a betting window inside a retail sportsbook.

Detroit Tigers + PointsBet Partnership

If you bet on the Detroit Tigers with a Michigan online sportsbook, you can try it with the team’s official gaming partner. PointsBet inked a multi-year deal in 2020 to become the official gaming partner of the Detroit Tigers. At the time, it was the first sportsbook to sign a sponsorship deal with a Major League Baseball team. PointsBet is also an authorized gaming operator with MLB, ensuring it can use official MLB data.

The agreement with the Tigers means you can see the PointsBet name on the primary scoreboard and right-field wall at Comerica Park. PointsBet branding is also featured on Tigers TV broadcasts and the team’s digital platforms online.

PointsBet is online in Michigan through a market access deal with the Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians and its Northern Waters Casino. Sign up with PointsBet through our exclusive link using the promo code None – Use Links and you can get a welcome bonus up to $250 that can be used to bet on Tigers games.

Why bet the Tigers over other MLB teams?

Detroit will be moneyline underdogs in almost all of its games this season. You can lose the majority of your bets on MLB underdogs and still make money over the long haul.

MLB favorites only win 60% of their games, so as long as the odds are big enough, you only need to win about 40% of your bets on underdogs such as the Tigers to come out ahead. Betting on MLB underdogs can (emphasis on “can” – no sports betting system can ensure a profit) make you score bigger wins.

Betting big favorites at high prices means big risk with small rewards, while betting MLB underdogs means losing a lot of bets, but making up for it when you win a few at long Tigers betting odds.
