On Tuesday, DraftKings declared its partnership with BetBlocker to enhance responsible gaming awareness and accessibility.

BetBlocker, a charitable organization located in the United Kingdom, provides free software that enables gamblers to impose limitations on their gaming endeavors across multiple devices.

Chrissy Thurmond, Senior Director of Responsible Gaming at DraftKings, expressed admiration for BetBlocker’s noteworthy efforts in promoting safer play. DraftKings is delighted to collaborate with this forward-thinking and game-changing not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to advancing responsible gaming in a comprehensive and user-friendly manner. Thurmond emphasized that both DraftKings and BetBlocker share the belief that technology and innovation play a vital role in ensuring safer gambling practices. Additionally, she extended a warm welcome to BetBlocker as they expand their presence in North America, following their significant achievements overseas.

What is BetBlocker?

BetBlocker’s extensive software extends its coverage to numerous gaming sites, not restricted to Michigan but globally. This includes unlicensed operators as well. Unlike the individual tools provided by Michigan’s online sportsbooks and casinos to set limits on their respective platforms, BetBlocker has the ability to encompass all of them simultaneously.

According to a joint release by BetBlocker and DraftKings, the download is available for anonymous use and does not store any personal information.

Customers have the flexibility to control their playtime by utilizing this feature. They can determine the duration of their play sessions by setting restrictions for days, weeks, months, or even years. Additionally, customers have the option to block specific days of the week if desired.

BetBlocker’s Chief of Safer Gambling Partnerships, Pedro Romero, expressed excitement over the partnership with DraftKings, a prominent player in the sports betting and gaming industry. This collaboration allows BetBlocker’s software to reach beyond the U.K. and Europe, extending its offerings to players in the United States and Canada. Romero commended DraftKings for their responsible gaming initiatives and emphasized the importance of expanding awareness about safer play technology. He encouraged other operators to follow DraftKings’ lead in exceeding regional requirements and providing players with the necessary knowledge and tools to engage in responsible betting.

DraftKings adding to responsible gaming initiatives

According to the release, DraftKings is making efforts to promote responsible gaming among its customers. They aim to achieve this by implementing technology, providing training to their staff, offering education and resources for consumers to ensure safer play.

Leading the effort is the social responsibility program called S.E.R.V.E.S. which stands for Service, Equity, Responsible Gaming, Vitality, Entrepreneurship, and Sports.

Customers using the DraftKings MI sportsbook and casino app have the option to establish limits for deposits, wagers, or time spent. They can also choose to take a short break for as little as three days or an extended one for up to four weeks. Additionally, they have the ability to exclude themselves from the app for either one year or five years.
