A stretch from the 11th through 13th holes at Augusta was christened with this nickname by sportswriter Herbert Warren Wind in the late 1950s. As legend has it, he was looking for a catchphrase that would speak to the overall difficulty of the event and the excitement that was often found at this stretch. The name has stuck to this day.
