Michigan online casinos dropped over $12 million in monthly revenue from March’s all-time record, but still set the second-highest revenue mark in the state’s history with $159.4 million collected in April.

March’s $171.8 million set a brief nationwide standard that was going to be hard to top again. However, April’s mark still topped the previous Michigan runner-up of January 2023 at $153.7 million.

April’s revenue was also a 20.3% jump from April 2022’s $132.4 million.

“As expected, Michigan online casinos had another massive month, even if the total was just shy of March’s record revenue haul. The $159 million is still its second highest month, and it’s a 20% increase over April 2022, which was the state record at the time. There remains growth potential here,” said Paul Costanzo, lead analyst for Playinmichigan.

Altogether, Michigan online casinos have generated $3.3 billion in lifetime revenue.

Three takeaways from April Michigan online casino report

Michigan online casino tax revenue surpasses $850 million

Michigan’s online casino industry continues to be a huge driver of tax revenue for the state.

With over $40 million generated in April for state and local entities, the iGaming industry has now produced $859.3 million for Michigan.

That puts Michigan on track to cross the $1 billion mark for lifetime online casino tax revenue by August of this year.

Collectively, Michigan’s gambling industry is producing nearly $2 billion annually in tax revenue for the state.

Caesars, WynnBet put up record totals

Record months have become common for a lot of Michigan online casino operators recently.

Even with the overall drop in April, two operators still put up a new personal best for iGaming revenue.

Caesars Casino MI recorded $8.7 million in revenue for April. That blew their previous best of $7.2 million in December 2022 by 20.2%.

The record month also lifted Caesars to fourth among Michigan operators in April. That’s the highest Caesars has ever been. It bested BetRivers ($8.3 million) for the fourth position this month.

WynnBet Casino MI also set a brand benchmark with $5.7 million in revenue for April. That edged its previous record of $5.6 million in November 2022 by 2.9%.

PointsBet sits last again as US sale agreement announced

In what has been a common theme for PointsBet Casino MI, the brand finished last of the 15 online operators in revenue for April.

The $1.4 million in revenue was the lowest it has recorded since January. SI Casino MI was the nearest competition at $1.5 million in revenue.

This past weekend, Fanatics announced that it reached an agreement on acquiring PointsBet’s US operations. That deal is expected to be finalized in the coming months. It will give Fanatics access to over a dozen sports betting states and four online casinos. That includes both in Michigan.

PointsBet could see further struggles in May, as it had a cryptocurrency email scam sent out to its customers last week.
