How to read soccer betting lines
When it comes time for you to select your wager on Detroit City FC, or any soccer team for that matter, you’re going to see sports betting odds that look like this:
- Detroit City FC +550
- Tulsa Roughnecks FC -250
- Draw +330
What do the numbers mean? It’s not really too complicated. Here’s a breakdown of what you’re looking at.
Detroit FC moneyline odds
What you’re seeing is the team name along with a +/- next to them with a number. These numbers are called a moneyline. What the moneyline wager is for is to simply pick if you think that team will win.
The – next to a number indicates the favorite, the + indicates the underdog. The greater the number next to the symbol, the stronger the favorite, or the greater the longshot they are to win.
In this instance, Detroit City FC is listed at +550. What that means is that a wager of $100 on Detroit City FC to win will payback $550 on top of the wager that was placed. From there, you can do the math on if your wager is less than $100. Essentially you are getting 5.5-to-1 odds.
Tulsa Roughnecks FC is listed at -250 in this example, so you would need to wager $250 to win back $100 on them winning. The same ratios apply with lesser wagers, so a $125 wager would win back $50.
Because soccer has so many draws occur, you will most often see a moneyline for a Draw as well.
Over/under total goals
Some sportsbooks also offer wagers on the total number of goals. It will be in an over/under format with both the over and the under being given moneylines. You just need to decide if you think the game will have more goals, or fewer goals, than the total provided. The wager then will carry the same odds format as we mentioned with the moneyline.
Detroit FC spread betting
Soccer also has spread wagers, similar to a point spread in sports like basketball and football. A negative number means the team is expected to win by that much. A plus, means the team is expected to lose by that much. Spread wagers tend to be closer to even odds as compared to moneyline wagers.
Detroit FC prop bets
Prop Bets are also available in soccer. Those can include team-specific bets when it comes to goals scored in a match, or which team will score the first or last goal.
Live betting for Detroit FC games
Live bets can also be placed for soccer games and are more readily available on online sportsbooks and apps. Retail locations just don’t usually have the technology to keep up with the constantly transitioning odds for live or in game betting.
Detroit City FC history
Founded in 2012, Detroit City FC has been part of a vision to bring professional soccer to downtown Detroit.
Using the same grass that was used during the 1994 World Cup at Pontiac Silverdome, DCFC established its first pitch at Belle Isle in downtown Detroit. Back then it was the Detroit City Futbol League, a co-ed, recreational league that matched up teams from the neighborhoods of Detroit.
With the league gaining success, drawing more than 1,000 players per week to the games, DCFL founder Sean Mann pitched to four friends an idea to turn the interest into what Detroit City FC has become.
DCFC started by joining the National Premier Soccer League in 2012, where it remained until 2019.
Home games were originally held at Cass Tech High School, but starting in 2016, Detroit FC began playing its games at Keyworth Stadium. In February of that year, Detroit City owners raised more than $740,000 to begin renovations on the stadium. The club held its first home game in the new home on May 20.
DCFC’s attendance record of 7,887 came on July 31, 2018 when it hosted Serie A side Frosinone Calcio, a 10-0 loss.
In 2019, Detroit City FC joined the National Independent Soccer Association. That year, DCFC also added a women’s club that participated in the United Women’s Soccer league.
Le Rouge would be crowned NISA champions for the 2020-21 and 2021 seasons.
On Nov. 13, 2021, Detroit City FC announced it would be joining the USL Championship for the 2024 season. It became the third NISA team to join the league.
