Panthers betting lines explained
The standard football betting line includes the odds for the big three pregame bets: moneyline, spreads, and totals. When you visit an online sportsbook and click on the football link, just drill through to get to the latest Panthers betting odds.
Games will be listed out in order by start time. An average game listing looks something like this at online betting sites, such as DraftKings online sportsbook and BetMGM Sportsbook Michigan:
Moneyline | Spread | Total | |
---|---|---|---|
New Jersey Generals | +120 | +2.5 (-110) | 49.5 (-110) |
Michigan Panthers | -140 | -2.5 (-110) | 49.5 (-110) |
Beginning with the moneyline, odds are negative for favorites and positive for underdogs. Spreads and totals include the number set by the sportsbook and the actual odds for placing the bet. For this contest, the Panthers are the moneyline and spread favorite in a game with an estimated total of 49.5 points. Here’s how the main types of bets work.
- Moneyline: Just make your pick on which team you think will win the game.
- Spread: Take the favorite minus the points or the dog plus the number. Your choice has to cover the spread for you to win.
- Totals: Choose Over or Under on the total number of points scored in the game.
The main pregame bets for football games are heavily bet, but they’re far from the only way to get involved. Let’s take a look at the other top ways to bet on the USFL at Michigan online sportsbooks.
Prop betting for Michigan Panthers games
Available prop bets can be found by clicking through the main game listing. There will be props that revolve around the game as a whole, as well as what the individual teams will do. The most popular prop markets tend to be player props. Examples of what Panthers props you can bet on include:
- Players to score a TD or 2+ TDs
- Over/Unders on yardage – pass, rush, receive
- Player attempts, carries, and receptions
- Defensive player stats – tackles, sacks, etc.
- Kicking game props, PATs, field goals
Props let you dig even deeper into the action on the field while providing additional rooting interest as the contest plays out. When betting on individual players, it’s comparable to playing fantasy sports. If your game picks wind up going south, you can still have chances to win if your prop selections hit the mark.
In-game betting on Michigan Panthers
After the kickoff of the game, live betting lets you keep on wagering as the contest plays out. This is real-time sports betting, and it moves really fast. The odds and opportunities will be continually updated while the action plays out on the field. Examples of what you can bet on include:
- Real-time sports odds for Panthers moneyline, spreads, and totals
- Bet on smaller portions of the game like quarters, halves, and overtime
- New prop betting opportunities
For live betting, Michigan sportbooks apps are the way to go. Once you log in on the small screen, you can keep your eyes on the market as you enjoy the game itself.

There are odds listed out for all of the teams in the league.
Futures odds can also help you out with research as it provides you with a real-time glimpse at the overall perception of a team, at least as far as the sportsbook and the betting public are concerned.
What are the teams in the new USFL?
The original USFL lasted for three seasons in the 1980s and featured several legendary stars, including Jim Kelly, Reggie White, and Steve Young.
The new USFL has eight teams split into two divisions. The team names harken back to the 1980s version of the league, while all of the squads are based in big football markets. Here’s what the divisional alignment looks like.
North Division | South Division |
---|---|
Michigan Panthers | Birmingham Stallions |
New Jersey Generals | Houston Gamblers |
Philadelphia Stars | New Orleans Breakers |
Pittsburgh Maulers | Memphis Showboats |
Teams will be playing a 10-week regular-season schedule followed by the postseason. For the inaugural season, all games are being held in Birmingham, AL, while the postseason will shift over to Canton, OH.
Who did the Panthers take in the 2024 USFL Draft?
As a new league, USFL teams were stocked with players at the first USFL Draft in 2024. There were 35 rounds with 280 players selected in total over two days. The draft was set up with fairness in mind as each of the rounds was designated for specific position groups.
In February 2024, the draft was smaller, comprising 10 rounds. Here’s a look at the players drafted to the Michigan Panthers this year.
- OT Jarrett Horst, Michigan State
- QB Tanner Morgan, Minnesota
- LB Santrell Latham, Southern Miss
- OL DJ Scaife Jr., Miami
- LB Dashaun White, Oklahoma
- DT Levi Bell, Texas State
- TE Gunnar Oakes, Eastern Michigan
- DE Andrew Farmer II, Lane College
- OT Chim Okorafor, Benedictine
- OT Sidy Sow, Eastern Michigan
The Panthers like to keep some of the love in their home state, selecting three players from Michigan school. This includes their 2024 first-round selection, Jarrett Horst.
Who is the head coach of the Panthers?
Mike Nolan is the head coach of the Michigan Panthers. He replaced former head coach Jeff Fisher—who stepped down for personal reasons—in February 2024. Nolan coached the San Francisco 49ers from 2005-2008. He has coached in various capacities for 11 NFL teams.
Nolan has coached at Stanford University, Rice University, and LSU. In 1987, he joined the Denver Broncos as a special teams coach. He became the Broncos’ linebackers coach in 1989. After a few years, he moved to the NY Giants in 1993 as a defensive coordinator.
In 1997, Nolan joined Washington as a defensive coordinator. In 2000, he was hired in the same position, this time bu the New York Jets. His next gig was with the Baltimore Ravens, where he served as wide receivers coach in 2011 and defensive coordinator from 2002 to 2005. He joined the 49ers in 2005. He was head coach of and general manager of the 49wers for three seasons before being fired. After that, he worked for the Broncos (again), Dolphins, and Falcons, all as defensive coordinator. The past few years brought him to the Chargers, Saints, and Cowboys before he was hired by the Panthers.
In short, Nolan has a lot of NFL experience. Whether that will translate to the USFL remains to be seen.

How to watch and stream USFL games
The USFL may be the new kid in town when it comes to pro sports, but the league has aligned itself with a pair of heavy-hitting broadcast partners. You can catch games on a combo of the following TV and streaming outlets.
- Fox and FS1
- NBC, Peacock, and USA Network
Spring football has been a tough nut to crack. The original USFL had some success in the 1980s, while the NFL had a developmental league in the 1990s that started as the WLAF and evolved into NFL Europe.
In recent times, the AAF and XFL started to play with much fanfare before ceasing operations, but the latter has plans to return in the future under new ownership. For now, the USFL has the spring pigskin spotlight to itself and high-profile exposure on the tube.
Were the original Panthers any good?
Yes, the original Panthers were a big factor for the first two years of the original USFL’s three-year run. The ‘83 team, led by QB Bobby Hebert and WR Anthony Carter, cruised to a 12-6 regular season record.
Michigan took down the Oakland Invaders in the divisional playoff round, and followed that up with a 24-22 victory over the Philadelphia Stars to win the first-ever USFL Championship. Hebert was MVP of the title tilt while throwing for 319 yards and three scores.
In 1984, the team ripped out of the gates at 6-0, but a four-game skid quickly brought the Panthers back down to earth. Hebert had another solid season behind center, but Carter was lost for the year to injury in Week 6.
Michigan would win just four more games after the hot start, wrapping up the year at 10-8. That was still good enough for a spot in the playoffs, but they were dropped by the Los Angeles Express in a triple-overtime thriller.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t all roses and daisies behind the scenes. The club ran into some financial difficulties, culminating in a merger with the Oakland Invaders for the 1985 campaign, the last year of play for the original USFL.
