Another casino has now entered the scene, making this week the most monumental in the history of sports gambling in northwest Michigan.

According to a Facebook post from the casino, Odawa Casino in Petoskey commenced its sportsbook operations on Thursday night, with a grand opening scheduled for October 8.

The opening of the sportsbook in Michigan marks the twelfth launch, with Odawa’s Mackinaw City branch preparing to establish a satellite location in the near future.

In addition, Turtle Creek Casino near Traverse City celebrated the grand opening of its Onyx Sports Book by William Hill this week.

Despite the fact that these sportsbooks will serve the majority of the NFL season, the online sports betting market in the state is still a few weeks from becoming available.

Odawa Casino partnered with The Stars Group

Previously, the retail sports betting operations of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, known as the Odawa operators, were associated with USBookmaking.

Nevertheless, the Las Vegas B2B company has removed Odawa as a listed partner on its website.

Odawa’s operations will be in partnership with The Stars Group when online wagering becomes available, potentially around Thanksgiving.

Through a tribal partnership, Flutter Entertainment plans to introduce brands such as Fox Bet Sportsbook and PokerStars for online poker in Michigan, granting them license access for sports betting.

On Wednesday, the Michigan Gaming Control Board conducted a public hearing to discuss its draft internet gaming regulations, while the licensing process remains in progress.

Sportsbooks miss summer tourist season

Michiganians statewide and tourists from the Chicago area alike flock to Northwest Michigan during the summer season, making it a highly sought-after destination.

Once the Odawa’s Mackinaw City casino begins accepting sports bets, the number of tribal sportsbooks in the area along the Lake Michigan shoreline will reach five.

Little River Casino Resort in Manistee was the pioneer in launching its sportsbook, establishing a partnership with BetRivers Sports Betting.

Last week, William Hill launched Onyx Sports Book at Turtle Creek, a location near Traverse City. Additionally, the operator introduced a satellite branch at Leelanau Sands, situated further up the Leelanau Peninsula.

The Odawa books are being carried towards the Mackinac Bridge.

On the Upper Peninsula’s bridge, a sportsbook has been unveiled at one of Michigan’s eleven tribal casinos. Island Resort & Casino has introduced a BetAmerica facility to coincide with the NFL’s opening night.

Odawa has reported recent COVID cases

On Tuesday, the casino made an announcement stating that a third employee has been confirmed positive for COVID-19.

Dear Valued Guests,

We regret to inform you that we have received news of a third positive case of COVID-19 among our team members from Petoskey. We…

On Tuesday, September 22, 2020, Odawa Casino made a post.

According to the statement, all three instances involved third-shift workers. The employee in question has not been on duty since September 11th.

Guests at the casino must wear masks that cover both their mouth and nose. The facility undergoes nightly cleaning by the crew, which takes place between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m.

Turtle Creek opened with a Bad Boy bang

On Wednesday, Rick Mahorn, the former Detroit Pistons Bad Boy, took center stage as the guest of honor during Turtle Creek’s grand opening.

Mahorn seems to have grand plans as he approaches this weekend’s NFL games.
