Aaron Rodgers Lions September 2021

It is understandable to empathize with Detroit Lions fans for their hopeful anticipation this offseason, wishing that Aaron Rodgers would indeed consider changing teams.

Throughout the spring, there were numerous rumors and leaks circulating about the star quarterback of the Green Bay Packers. Eventually, Rodgers seemed to have found his place and is currently expected to play his final season with the team, dressed in their iconic green and gold colors.

In anticipation of Aaron Rodgers’ return on Monday night against the Lions, we reflect on his dominant history against Detroit and the unfortunate experiences of those involved in Michigan sports betting.

Recently, Lions’ bettors have been performing exceptionally well.

Aaron Rodgers has dominated the Lions, obviously

As you may be aware, or have likely inferred, Rodgers has consistently dominated the unfortunate Lions throughout his tenure in Wisconsin.

Rodgers assumed the role of starting quarterback for the Packers in 2008, following three years of backing up Brett Favre. Coincidentally, this was the same year the Lions selected Matthew Stafford in the NFL draft.

Do you recall the year 2008, Lions’ fans?

Following that, Rodgers has a remarkable record of 17 wins and 5 losses, giving him an outstanding winning percentage of .773 when he starts against Detroit.

Rodgers’ winning percentage against non-Lions teams in regular-season starts is 112-63-1, which is considerably lower than his current record against the Lions.

Chicago is the only team that he has consistently outperformed in the regular season. Rodgers has an impressive record of 20-5 (.800) against the Bears. While he also boasts a strong record of 4-1 (.800) against the Giants and Rams, it is worth noting that he has been even more dominant against Detroit, with whom he has faced off at least four times.

Lions’ bettors doing a little better than Lions

Research conducted at Covers.com reveals that Detroit has managed to cover the spread in five of their losses against Rodgers. This impressive statistic includes three of the games that contribute to Green Bay’s ongoing four-game winning streak against Detroit.

Surprisingly, the Lions managed to achieve a four-game winning streak against Green Bay prior to this. However, Rodgers was absent for two of those games, and in another game, he only threw five passes before being substituted for rest.

In summary, Rodgers has a record of 12 wins and 10 losses against the spread when playing against Detroit.

  • These games appear to be well handicapped by the oddsmakers.
  • A closer examination of the Lions’ unfortunate encounter with the renowned Rodgers is warranted, with caution advised against accepting the storyline at face value.

In the 22 meetings so far, Rodgers has been considered an underdog only on two occasions when facing Detroit. Unfortunately, he ended up losing both games, which took place in 2014 and 2018, early in the season on away grounds at Ford Field.

Out of the four games since 2008 in which Rodgers was absent due to injury or rest, the Lions were favored in each one. Remarkably, Detroit emerged victorious in three of those matchups.

Given Green Bay’s unsteady performance in their previous game, it seems that the Lions might have an opportunity to level the playing field against Rodgers, especially considering this could be his last season in the NFC North.

The bad beat to end all bad beats in 2015

However, it cannot be denied that Lions’ bettors have experienced a significant amount of pain during the Rodgers’ era.

The quarterback’s incredible long pass to Richard Rogers during a Thursday night game in 2015, known as the Miracle in Motown, is widely regarded as one of the most devastating losses in betting history.

In case you conveniently overlooked it (although highly unlikely if you bet on the Lions +2.5), Green Bay was granted an additional opportunity due to a facemask penalty against Devin Taylor from Detroit on the final play.

Coach Jim Caldwell deployed a perplexing defense on the play, and fate ultimately triumphed.

Detroit’s promising three-game win streak came to an end, putting an end to their slim playoff hopes and marking another disappointing season for the Lions.

Many supporters of the Honolulu blue also contributed financially.

Where’s Aaron Rodgers going to play next season?

It is a possibility for Rodgers to remain with Green Bay in some way. Alternatively, he may choose to retire and take on the role of hosting Jeopardy! in the coming year. However, it is more probable that he will be playing quarterback for another team.

Throughout the offseason, the Denver Broncos were frequently associated with Rodgers.

If the quarterback gets traded by Green Bay during the offseason, betting odds in Colorado suggest that Denver is the favored destination, with even odds.

As of now, sportsbooks have not released odds for the upcoming year. However, Ian St. Clair, an expert in Broncos and Colorado sports betting, believes that the Broncos are the top choice for Rodgers’ next destination. He also considers Philadelphia and Las Vegas as potential options.

“According to St. Clair, the outcome of the Broncos and Raiders’ performance will significantly impact the situation. If Teddy Bridgewater performs admirably and successfully leads Denver to the playoffs, Broncos GM George Paton might choose to retain Bridgewater.”

More beatings coming? Broncos, Eagles, Raiders in Lions future

When looking ahead to the Lions’ future games outside their division, Detroit is set to welcome Philadelphia as their home opponent next year. However, they are not scheduled to face Denver or Vegas, unless they meet in the Super Bowl.

In 2024, the Lions have scheduled matches against Denver and Las Vegas, as well as a game against an NFC East team that is yet to be determined, which could potentially be Philly.

There is a possibility that Detroit might be out of trouble by 2024, despite the potential challenge of another NFC East game. It remains uncertain where the 37-year-old Rodgers will be at that point.

However, it’s highly likely that he will emerge victorious against the Lions every time, although you could potentially earn some points.
