In a matter of days, legal sports betting in Michigan will become a reality, prompting casinos throughout the state to work tirelessly to meet the demands of enthusiastic bettors eager to place wagers on March Madness.

For months, the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has consistently stated that the retail launch of sports betting in the state is targeted to coincide with the start of the NCAA Division 1 men’s basketball tournament. Once the MGCB grants final approval to Detroit casinos next Tuesday, most of them will be prepared to start accepting wagers immediately on March 11.

MGM Grand Detroit has proven to be proactive by recently unveiling two rows of sports betting kiosks.

Kiosks the preferred choice of sports bettors

According to SBTech’s Ian Bradley, kiosks have gained immense popularity among novice bettors in other US states where sports betting is legal. In fact, he mentioned to PlayNJ last year that over 80% of bets made on US properties were through kiosks.

Many bettors prefer going to a kiosk and taking their time instead of dealing with a teller at a window, as it tends to be less stressful.

Parlay bets, which require additional time and effort from the bettor, are especially favored at kiosks.

“The outcomes have been remarkably favorable. The margin performance has been superb thus far, and the feedback we have received from both our partners and their players in both retail and online domains has been highly complimentary,” Bradley informed PlayNJ. “The sports betting kiosks have been readily embraced by US consumers. They have surpassed our expectations in popularity.”

Every time our team or I visit our partners’ properties, the kiosks are consistently bustling with activity.

The platforms are intentionally created to provide a user-friendly experience, incorporating visually appealing instructions for different markets and sports parlays. Moreover, they offer players significantly greater flexibility and choices compared to waiting in line for a cashier, which can be overwhelming for inexperienced bettors.

The availability of betting terminals has expanded the range of content available in derivative markets that were previously inaccessible to bettors. Importantly, these terminals have provided a simpler and more accessible form of betting, attracting a broader recreational audience and allowing different customer segments to participate. In contrast, the traditional sportsbook counter and cashier can sometimes discourage new players.

Plenty of competition for MGM Grand Detroit

According to The Detroit News, the kiosks at MGM Grand Detroit can be found near the entrance of the casino’s hotel and also just outside the Moneyline Sports Lounge.

The sportsbook that was once a sports bar boasts an impressive collection of more than 50 TVs, a fully stocked bar, and luxurious leather recliners.

When the legal sportsbooks open in a few days, MGM Grand Detroit will undoubtedly face a significant amount of competition.

FanDuel, the legal sports betting giant, has partnered with MotorCity Casino in Detroit, ensuring significant success for the casino.

Live sports betting will be available at Greektown Casino-Hotel in Detroit.
