Banksy Art Exhibit Michigan Northern Waters August 2021

If the notion of a Banksy art exhibition in Michigan, let alone the Upper Peninsula, has ever seemed logical to you prior to today, chances are you’re not being entirely truthful.

However, in our interconnected world, the Northern Waters Casino Resort in Watersmeet is offering a unique experience this autumn.

The Contemporary at Northern Waters Resort Art Gallery will showcase a collection of privately collected works from an anonymous street artist based in the United Kingdom. This exhibition, which is free of charge, will run for two months, starting before Labor Day weekend. The casino resort is managed by the Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.

Famous yet eccentric art shines at Northern Waters

At 7 p.m. Central Time on Friday, Sept. 3, the public will have the opportunity to attend the exhibition titled “Banksy Takes a Break” (Because Artists Need Vacations Too). As stated in a press release from the casino, the showcased collection comprises of authenticated and certified prints, paintings, and peculiarities that are seldom witnessed by the general audience.

For decades, Banksy has ventured incognito into streets worldwide, leaving his mark through graffiti. As the gallery unveils its doors, the inaugural exhibition will showcase a curated collection of the artist’s works acquired during his extensive travels. These pieces have been sourced from various locations, spanning England, the Middle East, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and the Caribbean.

Additionally, tourists have the opportunity to observe well-known masterpieces like Balloon Girl, NOLA, GDP, a Dismaland balloon, and Flower Thrower.

The exhibition will showcase over 30 unique artworks and collectibles created by the artist over a period of 23 years, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace.

Northern Waters general manager Michael J. Broderick expressed his anticipation for the arrival of the general public, art enthusiasts, artists, Banksy fans, and tribal members to the property and their magnificent new creative space. He emphasized the significance of this occasion, stating that it marks an exciting milestone for the resort and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Notably, it will be the first time that a significant Banksy exhibition of this magnitude will be showcased in the Midwest and on a Native American reservation.

What’s even more significant is that the exhibit will be open to the public without any charge. We are certain that this fact alone would receive the artist’s endorsement.

The VIP ribbon-cutting ceremony will occur on launch day at 6 p.m., precisely at the gallery entrance which is situated approximately 8 miles north of the Wisconsin border. An hour after the ribbon-cutting, the gallery will officially open its doors. The exhibition will continue until November 1st.

After the conclusion of the Banksy exhibit, the gallery will showcase a series of meticulously organized group and juried shows, highlighting talented artists from both regional and nationwide backgrounds.
