The temporary closure of Bay Mills Resort & Casino occurred on Saturday due to an electrical fire that took place on the premises.

Bay Mills has announced through its Facebook page that it will be resuming operations at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 20th.

The incident occurred in Bay Mills’ main floor information technology room, where a fire broke out.

There were no injuries reported as all guests and workers were safely accounted for.

When the Bay Mills fire happened

Bay Mills reported that the fire broke out at approximately 7 p.m. within the information technology room.

Bay Mills Casino Surveillance Technician Jack Kronemeyer informed UpNorthLive that he observed the fire strobes flashing within the casino. Sensing a potential issue, he promptly returned to his office, only to be greeted by the scent of smoke. Upon further investigation, he discovered smoke emanating from the ceiling lights in his office.

The sprinkler system was activated by the fire, leading to the temporary evacuation of the resort.

Every single one of the 250 guests and employees were successfully located and confirmed to be safe. The guests were given the option to stay at the hotel throughout the night. For those who had to depart, they will receive a complete refund for their room expenses.

The Superior Township Fire Crew, Bay Mills Township Fire Crew, Bay Mills Police Department, and Bay Mills directors, supervisors, and managers joined forces to provide aid during the fire incident and ensure the safety of both customers and employees.

What was damaged in the Bay Mills fire

The heart of Bay Mills information technology system suffered severe compromise as a result of fire and sprinkler triggers.

The functionality of credit cards, gaming, Internet, phone, and ATM systems ceased to operate.

Bay Mills Resort & Casino has temporarily closed due to expected system downtime lasting 3-5 days. Upon reopening on Friday, the resort acknowledges that there are still ongoing technical issues and kindly requests patience and understanding from its guests.

Bay Mills announced on Sunday that all reservations made for Sunday to Thursday had to be cancelled due to technical issues with their reservation system. However, they assured customers that reservations will be valid and honored starting from Friday.
