Detroit Lions Are Home Underdogs For Thanksgiving Showdown With Chicago Bears

The winless Detroit Lions will hit the national stage once again Thursday by hosting the Chicago Bears in the team’s annual Thanksgiving game.

As has been the case all season, the Lions will be underdogs for the 11th straight game. Detroit comes in boasting a 0-9-1 record following another loss, this time 13-10 to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

The spread is on the way down though. After some bad injury news for the Bears this week, and perhaps good news for the Lions, Detroit is just a field-goal underdog.

Michigan online sports betting apps on Monday were calling Detroit 3.5-point underdogs for the game, which opens the NFL’s Week 12. However, by Wednesday afternoon, the spread was down to 3 points. A 3-point kickoff line would equal the lowest this season that the Lions have been up against.

Over the summer, sportsbooks also set the line for this game at 3.5 points in Chicago’s favor. The over/under was set for 41.5 points on Wednesday. The updated spreads, moneylines and over/unders are below.

As always, the holiday kickoff is a little earlier than usual. The 12:30 p.m. EST kickoff at Ford Field will be carried on Fox. In Thursday’s other holiday games, the Dallas Cowboys will host the Las Vegas Raiders at 4:30 p.m. on CBS. New Orleans will play host to Buffalo for the nightcap at 8:20 p.m. on NBC.

Fields out for Bears, Goff questionable for Lions

The teams received opposite news about their quarterbacks throughout the week.

On Tuesday, it was reported that Andy Dalton would be getting the start under center, replacing injured rookie Justin Fields.

However, Detroit might see the return of starter Jared Goff after he missed last week’s loss against Cleveland with an oblique injury.

The Lions declared Goff questionable on Wednesday’s official injury report.

Lions fall 13-10 to Browns in Week 11

Despite the 0-9-1 record, the Lions are a shocking 6-4 against the spread this season, which could be read as coach Dan Campbell is getting decent effort out of an impotent roster.

On Sunday, the Lions and new starting quarterback Tim Boyle struggled to get anything going against Cleveland, which sleep-walked to the win.

Baker Mayfield was banged up but Nick Chubb. did enough without much in the passing game.

The star running back, who missed the previous game because of Covid-19, had 133 yards and made big runs to run down the clock against the Lions.

Boyle finished 15-of-23 passing for 77 yards and two interceptions in his first career start.

Bears come in on five-game losing streak with Nagy on hot seat

The Bears lost four games before a bye in Week 10. It was more of the same in Week 11.

On Sunday, Chicago lost 16-13 to the Baltimore Ravens, who were without star quarterback Lamar Jackson because of an illness.

Tyler Huntley did enough for Baltimore to beat the Bears, but that doesn’t require much these days.

Even more, Fields went out with an injury in the second half, and we’ll see how that progresses throughout the week.

Bears coach Matt Nagy could be on thin ice, and his job status for Thursday could be in question too.
