Even the Detroit Pistons Can Manage This Weekend’s DraftKings Spread
If all you’re wanting from the NBA regular season is for it to end, we don’t blame you. If all you’d look for from the Detroit Pistons is draft lottery odds — well, we can’t go that far.
But just because every Detroit team under the sun is trending poorly doesn’t mean you should stop paying attention.
In fact, take a quick minute to scroll through the DraftKings Sportsbook offerings this week, and you’ll find a spread line that even the Pistons can manage to cover.
Detroit Pistons the subject of a ‘no-brainer’ boost
The Pistons (19-47) are 2.5 games clear of the next-worst team in the Eastern Conference following a pair of home losses this week to the Orlando Magic and Charlotte Hornets. It will be hard to catch the Houston Rockets (16-49) in the race for the worst record — and thus the best chance for the Detroit Pistons to win next month’s NBA Draft Lottery.
But even the potential attractiveness of losing shouldn’t keep Detroit from covering a whopping 76-point spread at the conference-leading Philadelphia 76ers at 7 p.m. ET Saturday.
That’s right: 76 points. DraftKings is throwing the number in the Philly nickname as its surefire way to help you maximize a $25 bet boosted to +100 odds.
If you’re wondering, the largest blowout in NBA history is a 148-80 whipping by the Cleveland Cavaliers over the Miami Heat in December 1991.
So the Pistons would have to rewrite the records books by eight whole points to keep you from cashing in.
DraftKings is offering similar no-brainer localized deals in other active NBA states, too.
Blowout record was in jeopardy last week
NBA fans could have gotten a taste of what a “blowout sweat” was like late last week, though, when the Indiana Pacers laid waste to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Pacers led by 67 points(!) at one point on the road, and wound up blitzing the Thunder 152-95. The 57-point triumph was the most lopsided victory by a road team in NBA history.
The previous mark was 56, set by the Boston Celtics over the Chicago Bulls in 2018 and the then-Seattle SuperSonics over the Rockets in 1986.
Jerami Grant should return to the lineup Saturday
If you want a small reason to tune in Saturday night beyond setting that bet and forgetting it, Yahoo! Sports insider Chris Haynes is reporting that forward Jerami Grant will end his brief knee-related absence from the roster by playing against his former team.
Grant is averaging an impressive 22.5 points and 4.6 rebounds in his first year with the Pistons. At least he’s thriving while Detroit seems headed for the tank.
The Pistons host the Memphis Grizzlies at 8 p.m. Thursday before playing the boosted Saturday game. The team closes the season with four home games from May 9-16.
