Shades Of ’84? PointsBet Tigers Opening Day Promo Should Spark Betting Win

Detroit Tigers Opening Day PointsBet 2021

Opening Day brings hope in baseball, and Detroit Tigers fans are hoping for a reboot of 1984 someday soon.

That’s the last World Series title in Detroit, now nearly 40 years ago.

Although a World Series parade is likely not in the cards for the time being, PointsBet Sportsbook is trying to help MI sports bettors get their seasons off to a winning start.

The Tigers ’84 On The House booster is a nearly ironclad way of doing just that.

Detroit Tigers Opening Day booster should be easy $20 for bettors

For the promo, PointsBet has boosted the run line of next week’s opening day to +84 for the Tigers.

Lefty Matthew Boyd is taking the mound for the Tigers against the Cleveland Indians at Comerica Park on April 1. It’s an annual rite of spring in downtown Detroit, and more than 8,000 fans will be allowed at the game.

Who knows how much run support the anemic Tigers’ offense will give him? But it seems as though Boyd should be able to keep the game to an 84-run margin.

The largest MLB margin of victory in history is 27 runs, when Texas beat Baltimore 30-3 in 2007. So, let’s just say 84 seems pretty safe.

There’s a $20 maximum bet on the promotion, and it is available only in Michigan.

Visions of a Tigers World Series title? Keep dreaming

Although the promo brings back memories of Alan Trammell, Lou Whitaker and Jack Morris, don’t expect a repeat of 1984 quite yet.

There are some good young pieces within the organization, such as Casey Mize, Matt Manning and Spencer Torkelson. But title contention is still likely years away.

PointsBet has Detroit tied with two other teams for 26th out of 30 in MLB World Series odds at +20000.

DraftKings Sportsbook has the Tigers tied for 23rd ,with five other teams at +10000.

At William Hill Sportsbook, the Tigers are tied for 22nd, with five other teams at +10000 odds.

In 1984, the Tigers famously stormed out of the gate with a 35-5 record to start a magical summer.

Although these Tigers don’t have that firepower yet, at least your bankroll should get off to a roaring start.

Michigan betting on baseball online for first time

With in-person sports betting launching March 11 of last year, some Michigan bettors are already familiar with national pastime wagers.

But with online sports betting launching in January, this baseball season will be a first-time endeavor for most.

Run lines are a common way of betting on games, as well as money lines and the first five innings, which weigh the starting pitchers’ performances even more heavily.

Expect PointsBet to lean heavily on baseball and the Detroit Tigers long past Opening Day, as the sportsbook partnered with the team last year in the first such deal for any sportsbook and MLB team.

And in a competitive sports betting market that’s just getting started, you can be assured promos like this won’t be taking the summer off until football season.
