Saginaw County Woman’s Lucky Timing Leads To $1M Michigan Scratch-Off Prize

Frenzy Multiplier Michigan Lottery Game 2021

Sometimes, gambling wins are as much about timing as luck. One woman from Saginaw County can testify to the importance of being on time when it comes to playing the Michigan Lottery. Another few minutes might have resulted in her missing out on a Frenzy Multiplier lottery game win.

Because she showed up just in time, though, she’s enjoying a prize of a million dollars (before taxes). She’s also now the latest MI Lottery millionaire in a year that has seen Michiganders nab that distinction at a furious pace.

Frenzy Multiplier lottery game win secured in nick of time

According to a press release from the lottery, the sale of the winning card almost didn’t happen. The 52-year-old anonymous winner tells the story best herself.

“My friend and I were on the way home for a bonfire, and we needed to stop for a couple things,” the player explained. “We stopped at the Marion Springs General Store, but they must have just closed because the door was locked. We were standing at the door when a clerk came over to let us in.

“We grabbed items for the night and picked up some Lottery tickets. I got home and got the fire going and forgot all about the tickets for a couple days. When I finally scratched it off, I was so surprised to win $1 million!”

The Marion Springs General Store is on Merrill Road in Brant. The store will get a bonus for selling the ticket. The winner recently claimed her prize, opting for the lump sum of $634,000 after taxes. She didn’t share her plans for the money with the lottery other than making her lifestyle a “little easier.”

She isn’t the only Michigander whose lifestyle probably got easier this year. In fact, 2021 has been a banner year for lottery wins easing people’s lives in MI.

2021 is on-pace to be Michigan Lottery year unlike any other

The MI Lottery reports that 48 people won prizes of at least $1 million playing either its games or multi-state games last year. So far this year, retailers and the MI Lottery’s online sales platforms have sold 32 plays worth seven figures or more.

As it’s only mid-June, it’s quite possible that 2021’s total could surpass last year’s figure by a good margin. Although increased sales might be part of this apparent uptick (we won’t know for sure until the lottery puts out its 2021 annual report), it certainly isn’t because of improved odds. In fact, as winners claim more of these prizes in scratch-off games such as $1,000,000 Frenzy Multiplier, the fewer such prizes naturally remain.

In that game, for example, just two of the top prizes are still out there to be won. As quickly as players are winning, those might go fast. As this Saginaw County woman’s story emphasizes, time is of the essence.
