This allows bettors to wager on horse racing at Michigan racetracks and online with licensed horse betting operators through advance deposit wagering.

How to bet on horse racing
Betting on horse racing can go well beyond simply picking a winner.
There are basic bets available, called straight bets. Included in those are:
- Win: You bet on the horse to win
- Place: You bet on the horse to finish first or second
- Show: You bet on the horse to finish first, second or third
If you want your Kentucky Derby bet to land a bigger payout, you can try exotic bets. Included in those are:
- Exacta: You bet on two horses to finish first and second, in that order. Big payouts await if you can pick the exact finishing order of the top two. You can also box this bet, flipping the order of finish for two separate bets.
- Quinella: You bet on two horses to finish first and second, in any order. Decent payouts await if you can pick the top two finishers, but this combination will yield smaller results than an exacta.
- Trifecta: You bet on three horses to finish first, second and third, in that order. Even bigger payouts await if you can pick the exact finishing order of the top three. You can also box this bet, flipping the order of finish for the three horses.
- Superfecta: You bet on four horses to finish first, second, third and fourth, in that order. Massive payouts await if you can pick the exact finishing order of the top four. You can also box this bet, but be aware that flipping the order of finish for four horses starts to get expensive.
Kentucky Derby horses to watch
Zandon got a favorable draw coming out of the No. 10 position, and is the favorite to win the Kentucky Derby with 3-1 odds.
Chad Brown is the trainer for Zandon, which won the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes in early April. The Kentucky-born colt will be piloted by jockey Flavien Prat, who rode Country House to a shocking victory in the 2019 Derby.
That, of course, came with some controversy, as Maximum Security crossed the finish line first, but was disqualified for swerving into the path of War of Will and Long Range Toddy.
Epicenter is second favorite, with 7-2 odds. It didn’t get any help in Monday’s draw, getting the No. 3 post, but has been running strong leading up to the Derby. Epicenter took top honors at the Twinspires.com Louisiana Derby, the Risen Star S., the Gun Runner Stakes and Maiden Special Weight. Each of those wins came at a different distance, including the mile-long Maiden Special Weight, which was run at Churchill Downs.
Steve Asmussen is the trainer for Epicenter, and is looking to finally add a Kentucky Derby victory to his illustrious career.
Joel Rosario, who rode Orb to victory in the 2013 Kentucky Derby, will be in the saddle for Epicenter Saturday.
Following Epicenter among the favorites are Messier (8-1), Mo Denegal (10-1), White Abarrio (10-1) and Taiba (12-1).
