With the Detroit Lions staring a winless season in the face now, the chances for Dan Campbell to pick up a victory as a rookie head coach are dwindling heading into Sunday’s NFL Week 13 game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Oddsmakers don’t believe this is the week, either.

Underdogs in each of the first 11 games, the Lions are 7-point home dogs heading into this week’s contest, too.

The over/under for the 1 p.m. ET kickoff was set for 47 points at most Michigan online sportsbooks on Monday. However, PointsBet Sportsbook had the total points market set at 46.5 points early Monday afternoon.

Lions close again, but still winless this year

It was another holiday heartbreak for the Lions last week, who fell to 0-10-1 on Thanksgiving Day.

Limited offensively as always, Detroit scratched and clawed to a late lead on Thursday against the Chicago Bears.

But, per usual, the Honolulu blue and silver found a way to lose, as Cairo Santos nailed a 29-yard field goal on the game’s final play, knocking off Detroit 16-14.

The lowlight was during the game-winning drive for Chicago when Detroit called consecutive timeouts after a coverage confusion. The action drew a 5-yard penalty leading up to a crucial third-down play.

The kickoff spread settled as the Bears being favored by 2.5 points, though, so the Lions did cover. And despite the pitiful season, Detroit is actually 7-4 against the spread.

But the real drama left the season resides on two fronts: Will the Lions actually win a game (and not just be stuck with that Pittsburgh tie)? And will they get the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft?

Vikings coming in after another tough defeat

Lions fans know all about misery, but Vikings fans can certainly relate.

Minnesota lost another close game on Sunday, falling 34-26 to the San Francisco 49ers.

It was another wild afternoon for Minnesota, which has only had one game this season decided by more than one possession.

The lowlight for coach Mike Zimmer’s team came late in the game when quarterback Kirk Cousins (Michigan State) lined up behind the guard instead of the center as the Vikings eventually took a timeout.

It was another tough loss for the Vikings, who fell to 5-6 on the season with their NFC playoff hopes dwindling.

Even worse, star running back Dalvin Cook left the game with a left shoulder injury in the third quarter. He was taken off the field in a cart and could miss extended time.
