Coming off a Big Ten title in 2021, No. 8 Michigan is set to kickoff the 2022 college football season this weekend.
The Wolverines will play host to Colorado State in ABC’s opener on Saturday at Noon ET.

Michigan’s football odds for Week 1 are quite lopsided in what will be the season opener for both squads.
Oddsmakers have UM as more than a four-touchdown favorite against the visiting Rams in Saturday’s ABC featured college football game.
The total is a competitive number over 60 points, which will require a fair amount of scoring.

Along with a 12-2 overall record, the Wolverines were one of the best in the nation against the spread last season. Michigan was 11-3 ATS in its 14 games. The Wolverines won two of their three non-conference games by 33 points or more.
On the flip side, Colorado State was an abysmal 4-8 against the spread while going 3-9 straight up. However, the Rams were 1-3 in non-conference games and didn’t lose by more than 19 points in any of them.
When it comes to the over/under total, in Michigan’s 14 games, it went right down the middle. The Wolverines sided with the over and the under seven times each in 2021.

What can bettors expect from UM football?
Following a long drought, Michigan finally secured its first Big Ten Championship since 2004 last season.
The Wolverines went 12-2, suffering just a minor loss to Michigan State and a playoff semifinal loss to Georgia. Michigan ended its 8-game losing streak to Ohio State as well.
Last season, the Wolverines were led by a dominant defense that featured three players taken in the first 45 selections of the 2022 NFL Draft.
This season, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh is going to have to rely more on offense.
The problem is, Harbaugh still doesn’t know who his starting quarterback will be.
Cade McNamara, a senior, led the Wolverines to their accolades in 2021 with 2,576 yards and 15 touchdowns with only six interceptions.
However, sophomore J.J. McCarthy remains a constant buzz in the QB picture. In 2021, McCarthy threw for 516 yards and five scores while rushing for 124 yards and two touchdowns.
McNamara is the safer game manager, while McCarthy has the higher ceiling, but could be a risky option as well.
After an entire offseason, Harbaugh has decided McNamara will start this week while McCarthy will start next week against Hawaii. Both are expected to play in each game. A permanent starter will be named for Week 3.
Either starter will have a veteran group of receiving targets to work with, as well as top running backs in Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards. Both running backs and quarterbacks are in the thick of the Heisman Trophy odds race. Here’s the current Heisman odds for the quartet:
