[toc]We’ve all been there, patiently waiting at the reception venue while the wedding party is god knows where with the photographer. This can take a while, since the wedding pictures always have to be at some park or church 20 minutes away and at a particular time of day for lighting. Plus, the photographer always has one more great idea for a picture that takes an extra 10 minutes to stage.

Thanks to smartphones, it’s a bit easier to fill the time than it used to be.

For one Michigan man, whose wife was in the bridal party, pulling out his phone during the downtime between the ceremony and the reception was a life-changing decision.

“I was at a wedding with my wife on Saturday, and since she was in the wedding, I was sitting alone before dinner,” Mike Hanley told the Michigan lottery. “Since the Powerball jackpot was up pretty high, I decided to buy a ticket online.”

Hanley bought the ticket on his phone through the Michigan Lottery’s online website. When he checked the numbers the next day, he was shocked to see he’d won $100,000 for matching four of the five numbers that were probably drawn sometime between the Cha-Cha Slide and the tossing of a garter belt.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Hanley will use the money to pay some bills and his wife’s student loan, as well as making some charitable donations.
