However, we opted to change the dynamics a bit and carefully monitor a few performances this autumn.

Playinmichigan will be monitoring NFL predictions made by media members across the market as Michigan online sports betting enters its first full football season.

Detroit gambling trend-setter Mike Valenti starts off slow; Rico Beard hot

Let’s give some credit to Mike Valenti for this.

Valenti, the long-standing 97.1 The Ticket drive-time radio host, has been discussing market gambling on the most popular media platform for quite some time. Therefore, with the introduction of sports gambling in Michigan, Valenti was perfectly positioned to provide authoritative content on the subject.

Valenti was accompanied by co-host Rico Beard on his radio show during the previous summer. Together, along with a few producers, they would make weekly NFL football picks, and we were fortunate enough to be part of the experience.

This week, Valenti placed bets on Colts +3, Chiefs -5.5, and Washington +1, all of which were unfortunate choices. On the other hand, Beard emerged victorious by betting against Valenti in each of these three games.

Both men decided to bet against Valenti’s beloved team, the New York Giants, and chose the Broncos with a -3 point spread to secure the victory.

In the end, the Lions managed to Goff both men, leaving Valenti and Beard, who had placed their bets on the 49ers with -8.5 odds, as victims of the surprising backdoor cover that resonated throughout the state.

Beard had a record of 4 wins and 1 loss, while Valenti had a record of 1 win and 4 losses.

Detroit News: Columnists Niyo, Wojo lead the way

Full disclosure: I occasionally do freelance work for the Detroit News and am acquainted with all these individuals.

Since the dawn of time, The Detroit News sports section has been providing their readers with weekly NFL picks, making it an essential part of their sports coverage.

Surprisingly, in contrast to the Valenti show, the San Fran backers emerged victorious this time as the News selected the game with a -7.5 point spread. When evaluating these picks, we are relying on the pickers’ honesty in checking the current spreads while making their selections.

We’re also unsure about what to do with Lions beat reporter Justin Rogers. Even though he openly admits to not putting much effort into his picks each year, he has chosen the home teams (including the Lions on Sunday) for his published picks. However, he also selected San Fran and the spread in this case. We’re considering it a non-pick for him. (shrug emoji)

After the first week, the columnists are tied for the lead. John Niyo and Bob Wojnowski both achieved a 10-6 record. Rogers, on the other hand, had a 6-9 score, while James Hawkins, the Michigan basketball beat writer, finished with a 6-10 record.

This week, it is worth mentioning that the chosen predictions of each individual did not turn out to be successful. Wojo’s best choice was the Packers with a -3 point spread, while the rest favored the Chiefs with a -6 point spread.

Detroit Free Press: Lions pickers fall victim to backdoor cover

In a surprising twist, the Detroit Free Press has decided to discontinue the long-standing tradition of NFL picks by writers, now that gambling is legal for readers.

Nonetheless, we managed to find Lions picks and will assess them accordingly.

Jeff Seidel, Shawn Windsor, Dave Birkett, and Carlos Monarrez made their predictions on the score.

I established this criteria prior to considering any backdoor cover possibilities. However, I have decided to compare the score predictions with the kickoff spread for their betting purposes.

Under that scenario, all four individuals would have chosen the 49ers with a -9.5 point spread, resulting in them all being unsuccessful in their picks.

Therefore, a loss for all those individuals.
