What can bettors expect from Michigan State football?

Coming off an 11-win season in 2021, head coach Mel Tucker has quickly been able to rebuild MSU football since taking over two seasons ago.

The big question for the 2022 season is who will lead the Spartans now that Kenneth Walker III is in the NFL.

Walker put up 1,636 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns behind a questionable offensive line last season. With him out of the picture, the Spartans may have to rely more on quarterback Payton Thorne.

The junior is coming off a sophomore season where he threw for 3,240 yards and 27 touchdowns. He returns senior receiver Jayden Reed, who put up 59 receptions for 1,026 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2021.

To address the loss of Walker in the backfield, Tucker utilized the transfer portal once again. He’s brought in Jarek Broussard from Colorado and Jalen Berger from Wisconsin.

Broussard appears to have the leg up for more carries, as he is listed with odds to win the Heisman Trophy. Similarly, Reed has odds to win the honor, while Thorne is listed at to win.
