Detroit Lions Again Among NFL’s Biggest Underdogs In Week 2 Monday Night Football Showdown At Packers

Week 1 was the first time the Detroit Lions were the biggest odds underdog on the NFL slate, but it definitely won’t be the last.

However, while the Green Bay Packers were favored by 10.5 points in the opening game-week line against the Lions for a Week 2 Monday Night Football battle, Detroit was not the biggest underdog on the Michigan sports betting slate.

Over the summer, sportsbooks opened the Lions as 8-point underdogs for Week 2 against Green Bay. But that was before Sunday’s carnage, where the Lions were down as much as 38-10 before scratching out a 41-33 loss.

That’s not to say the Lions won’t close as the biggest odds underdog for the second straight week. For now, those are the Atlanta Falcons, who are 12.5-point underdogs to Tampa Bay, and the Houston Texans, who are 11.5-point underdogs at Cleveland.

The 10.5-point line was not a consensus on Sunday night, but it was at DraftKings and Caesars Sportsbook. FanDuel set it at 11.5 points, and BetMGM was at 10. We’ll be tracking the number throughout the week.

UPDATE: By mid-week, the Lions line had moved up a tick to 11 points, still not as big of underdogs as the Texans or Falcons (both +12.5).

The over/under for the Lions at Packers game is set for 48.5 points.

Detroit Lions stumble in opener as Week 1’s biggest underdog

There were no surprises for Lions fans in a 41-33 loss to San Francisco in Sunday’s season opener.

Detroit settled as 9.5-point underdogs in this one, more of a projected loser than Dallas on Thursday night against Tampa Bay and Chicago against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night.

Quarterback Jared Goff was conservative yet shaky. The defense looked pathetic. The overall talent level is as low as expected.

Aggressiveness from rookie head coach Dan Campbell and the play from tight end T.J. Hockenson were among the only positives, in addition to the fourth-quarter surge for a back-door cover.

We’ll also keep an eye on the injury status from Jeff Okudah after he suffered a leg injury Sunday in a brutal start to his second year.

Aaron Rodgers, Packers dominated by New Orleans Saints, too

Meanwhile, the Packers lost to the New Orleans Saints 38-3 on Sunday.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers struggled after a strange offseason. He threw two interceptions, a far cry from last season’s MVP form.

Jameis Winston, starting for the Saints after the retirement of Drew Brees, carved up the Green Bay defense for five touchdowns.

Turns out, the NFC North just might be worse than we even thought.

Lions’ struggles in Green Bay well documented

To say the Lions have struggled over the years at Lambeau Field would be an understatement.

Detroit lost 24 straight games in Wisconsin until a 2015 upset snapped the streak. Including that game, the Lions are actually 3-3 in their past six trips to Lambeau, including a Monday night win with Rodgers out injured in 2017 and a meaningless Week 17 game in 2018.

The Packers lead the overall series between the teams 104-72-7.
