PokerStars MI is set to host the Michigan Championship of Online Poker (MICOOP) for the second time this year.
Usually, the event occurs once a year. However, PokerStars MI broke tradition by commencing earlier this year and is now preparing for a second MICOOP in 2021, making up for lost time.
From September 10th to 27th, a series of 68 events will take place, offering guaranteed prize pools totaling slightly over $1.5 million.
PokerStars MI hopes to replicate successes of first MICOOP, MISCOOP
The initial MICOOP event occurred at PokerStars MI in Feb.-March of this year, shortly after the platform’s launch. Originally consisting of 60 tournaments with $1 million guaranteed, the series experienced significant participation right from the start. This positive response prompted PokerStars MI to raise the guaranteed amounts for several events, resulting in a total of $1.43 million guaranteed.
In the end, the MICOOP series accumulated a grand total of almost 32,000 entries, including re-entries. These entries contributed to prize pools exceeding $2.2 million.
Following that, PokerStars MI hosted the Michigan Spring Championship of Online Poker in May, which consisted of three different buy-in levels. With a total of 120 tournaments, this series handed out a grand total of over $2.35 million to players from Michigan.
The 68-event schedule of the second MICOOP showcases a diverse range of games and buy-ins, starting as low as $10 and going up to a high roller event with a buy-in of $1,000.
In September, PokerStars has scheduled the COOP series to take place simultaneously on all three of its US sites. It is important to note that PokerStars’ US sites operate within a ring-fenced system, ensuring that players can only face opponents from their respective states.
The PACOOP on PokerStars PA will showcase 69 events and offer a total of $2 million in guarantees. Meanwhile, on PokerStars NJ, the NJCOOP has 60 events lined up, along with guarantees exceeding $1 million.
MICOOP Main Event features $150K guarantee, winner’s trophy
Similar to the inaugural MICOOP, the culmination of the series will involve a two-day Main Event on Sunday, Sept. 26, requiring a $300 buy-in. However, the MICOOP Main Event for this edition guarantees a prize pool of $150,000.
The Main Event in Pennsylvania will feature a higher guarantee of $200,000, while in New Jersey, the guarantee will be set at a lower amount of $100,000.
In March, the inaugural MICOOP Main Event made a massive impact with an impressive turnout. A staggering total of 1,284 participants flocked to the event, generating an astounding prize pool of nearly $360,000.
In addition to the excitement, the winner of the MICOOP Main Event will receive a magnificent MICOOP trophy, in addition to the first-place prize money. Moreover, there will be seven events called the “Championship Trophy Events” on the schedule, where the victors will also be honored with unique trophies.
MICOOP promotions, freerolls to run alongside series
Similar to other tournament series at PokerStars MI, the MICOOP in September will include accompanying promotions for players.
PokerStars MI will consistently offer $300 Main Event tickets as potential prizes for players participating in the site’s $3 Spin & Go tournaments throughout the series.
On the afternoon of September 26th, a MICOOP Depositor Freeroll will take place alongside the main event. Players from PokerStars MI who deposit a minimum of $30 using the promo code “MICOOP” before the tournament will be granted entry into the freeroll. The top 50 participants in the freeroll will secure seats in the Main Event of that day, resulting in a collective value of $15,000 worth of tickets.
Additionally, during MICOOP, there will be Second Chance Freerolls available. In the event that a player is eliminated from a MICOOP event without making any cash, they will automatically be granted entry into the Second Chance Freeroll taking place on the next day. Throughout the series, a total of $5,000 worth of MICOOP tickets will be distributed among these freerolls.
In addition, the PokerStars MI client has already begun featuring several satellites for MICOOP events. Please refer to the complete MICOOP schedule provided below.
