MICOOP Returns to PokerStars MI in September With 68 Events, $1.5M Guaranteed

PokerStars Michigan COOP September 2021

For the second time this year, PokerStars will host a Michigan Championship of Online Poker (MICOOP) at PokerStars MI.

Typically, the series is an annual affair. But after launching early this year, PokerStars MI is catching up with a second MICOOP in 2021.

The series will run Sept. 10-27 and feature 68 events with guaranteed prize pools adding up to just over $1.5 million.

PokerStars MI hopes to replicate successes of first MICOOP, MISCOOP

The first MICOOP took place at PokerStars MI in Feb.-March of this year, not long after the site launched. What started out as a 60-tournament series with $1 million in guarantees saw big turnouts early on. Those results encouraged PokerStars MI to increase the guarantees in many events and push the total to $1.43 million in guarantees.

Ultimately, nearly 32,000 total entries (including re-entries) together built MICOOP prize pools totaling more than $2.2 million for the series.

Since then, PokerStars MI also staged a Michigan Spring Championship of Online Poker in May. Featuring three tiers of buy-ins, that 120-tournament series ultimately awarded just over $2.35 million to Michigan players.

The second MICOOP’s 68-event schedule features a variety of games and buy-ins — ranging from as low as $10 up to a $1,000 high roller event.

PokerStars will run COOP series on all three of its US sites over the same 18-day period in September. PokerStars’ US sites are each ring-fenced, meaning players only compete against others from the same state.

In Pennsylvania on PokerStars PA, the PACOOP will feature 69 events and $2 million in guarantees. In New Jersey on PokerStars NJ, the NJCOOP has 60 events scheduled, with just over $1 million in guarantees.

MICOOP Main Event features $150K guarantee, winner’s trophy

As with the first MICOOP, the series will culminate with a $300 buy-in, two-day Main Event starting Sunday, Sept. 26. This time around, the MICOOP Main Event comes with a $150,000 guaranteed prize pool attached.

Over in Pennsylvania, the Main Event will have a higher $200,000 guarantee. In New Jersey, the guarantee will be set lower at $100,000.

The first MICOOP Main Event in March was huge. It attracted 1,284 total entries and featured a prize pool of almost $360,000.

Adding to the fun this time, the MICOOP Main Event winner will collect a handsome MICOOP trophy to go along with first-place prize money. In fact, there will be seven “Championship Trophy Events” on the schedule, each of which will award winners with some additional hardware.

MICOOP promotions, freerolls to run alongside series

As with other tournament series at PokerStars MI, the MICOOP in September will feature associated promotions for players.

Throughout the series, PokerStars MI will be adding $300 Main Event tickets as potential prizes for those playing the site’s $3 Spin & Go’s.

There will additionally be a MICOOP Depositor Freeroll the afternoon of Sept. 26 main event. Any PokerStars MI player who deposits at least $30 between now and then while using the promo code “MICOOP” will receive an entry into the freeroll. The top 50 finishers will earn seats in that day’s Main Event. (That’s a total of $15,000 worth of tickets.)

There will also be Second Chance Freerolls happening throughout MICOOP. If a player busts shy of the cash in a MICOOP event, that player will automatically receive an entry into the following day’s Second Chance Freeroll. Over the course of the series, another $5,000 in MICOOP tickets will be awarded in those freerolls.

There will also be numerous satellites for MICOOP events. Indeed, some of those are already starting to appear in the PokerStars MI client. Take a look below at the full MICOOP schedule.
