Update: $1 Million Powerball Winner Purchased in Warren Has Expired
A $1 million winning Powerball ticket expired recently in Michigan.
The winner was sold for the May 5, 2021 drawing at Warren Market on Mound Road in Warren. The prize was never claimed, however, and it expired at 4:45 p.m. on May 5, 2022.
The money from the unclaimed prize was transferred to the state’s School Aid Fund.
Another ticket, a $150,000 winner from the April 24, 2021 drawing, expired on April 25. That ticket was purchased at Pine Knob Wine Shoppe in Clarkston.
Where does Michigan Lottery money go?
All profits from the Michigan Lottery go to the state’s School Aid Fund, and 2021 was a record year on that front.
The Michigan Lottery contributed $1.419 billion in fiscal year 2021, the seventh straight year a record contribution was made.
How to play for Powerball jackpot in Michigan
Tickets for the Powerball can be purchased for $2 either online (click “Play Now” above), through the Michigan lottery app or at an authorized Michigan lottery retailer. They are available for purchase until 9:45 p.m. the night of the draw.
The next draw is Wednesday, May 11, and the estimated jackpot is $68 million. It has a cash value of $39 million.
Powerball is available to lottery players in 45 states, as well as Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Power Play tickets can be added for $1 to increase non-jackpot prizes by 10x, up to $2 million. Double Play tickets can also be added for $1, and give players a second chance to win $10 million in the Double Play drawing.
To win the jackpot, players must match all five white balls, plus the PowerBall.
