Michigan Online Sportsbooks Cash In On Super Bowl LVI
Super Bowl LVI is in the books and it appears that online sportsbooks in Michigan had a pretty good day at the office.
Though the state bucked the national trend and bet more with the Los Angeles Rams than the rest of the country, oddsmakers still prevailed.
The Cincinnati Bengals managed to cover in a low-scoring, 23-20, battle. That left a majority of sports bettors empty handed.
Golden Nugget Sportsbook MI cleans up on Super Bowl LVI
It was the best-case scenario for Golden Nugget Sportsbook on Sunday night, which was its biggest betting game of the year since entering the Michigan market.
According to the sportsbook, their two most popular bets for the night were Bengals moneyline and Rams -4.5 or -4. Not too far behind was the Over 48.5 points. All losing wagers.
While Cooper Kupp winning Super Bowl MVP provided somewhat of a hit, it avoided bigger liabilities with Aaron Donald, Odell Beckham Jr. and Von Miller not winning with longer odds.
Some of the popular prop wagers that went the way of the bettors were:
- Both Teams to Kick 35+ Yard Field Goals: Yes
- Bengals Total 1st Downs: Under 20.5
- Both Teams to Score 20 Points: Yes
- First TD Scorer and Team To Win: Odell Beckham Jr. and the Rams
Seven-leg Super Bowl LVI parlay hits at BetRivers Sportsbook MI
BetRivers Sportsbook also had a pretty good day, but there were some notable wins for the bettors on Sunday night.
The sportsbook reports that 58% of the handle for the moneyline was on the Rams, but 67% of the handle on the spread was with the Rams to cover, which they did not.
When it came to the total, 70% of the handle at BetRivers was on the over of 48.5.
The largest win in Michigan at BetRivers wasn’t much of a risk. One bettor put $7,210 on the Rams +5. That had -345 odds and paid out just $9,301.
One lucky better managed to land a 7-leg parlay with +8000 odds. The $10 wager paid out $810. Here was the winning combo:
- Bengals +10
- Over 42 Total Points
- Rams -2.5 1st Half Spread
- Under 24.5 Total 1st Half Points
- Rams -1.5 1st Quarter Spread
- Bengals +1.5 2nd Half Spread
- Under 23.5 Total 2nd Half Points
Scary start, strong finish for BetMGM
Nationally, BetMGM Sportsbook reports a strong showing for the most bet on Super Bowl ever. That comes despite a nerve-wracking start for the sportsbook when Beckham Jr. scored the opening touchdown.
“BetMGM had a challenging start to the Super Bowl with Odell Beckham Jr. scoring the first touchdown and unfavorable results in the first quarter and first half,” BetMGM VP of Trading, Jason Scott said. “That said, the second half went the book’s way. We dodged a bullet with the Rams winning in regulation, as overtime would have been the worst possible result in what was the most bet on Super Bowl ever.”
Overall, BetMGM had 71% of the moneyline bets, and 58% of the handle, on the Bengals. Also, 60% of the total bets and 59% of the handle were on the over.
Some notable winning bets placed at BetMGM on Sunday were:
- $1 million on the Rams -0.5 in the first quarter (+105)
- $1 million on the Rams -2.5 in the first half (-120)
- $500,000 on Rams to win (-200, in Michigan)
- $200,000 on Bengals +4.5 (-110)
- $130,000 on Under 48.5 (-110)
One futures bet saw a $10,000 Rams Super Bowl wager cash in for $120,000 at +1200. Another player cashed in on Beckham Jr.’s first touchdown with a $10,000 bet to win $100,000.
