Strong Winter For FanDuel Casino In Michigan Part Of National Trend

In the state of Michigan, it’s been pretty clear who is leading the way when it comes to online casinos.

While BetMGM Michigan has a stranglehold on the top spot, FanDuel Casino is doing its part to clearly establish itself as the No. 2 option for Michigan online casinos.

FanDuel made commitments to upgrade its product throughout the past year and is looking to create some space from some of the state’s other top operators.

FanDuel Casino having record months of revenue in Michigan

The entire state has seen a boost in online casino revenue throughout recent months.

FanDuel Casino MI is certainly included in that.

The online operation for MotorCity Casino is coming off three consecutive months with at least $27 million in revenue. Prior to that, FanDuel had never hit $24 million. Here’s a look at its last three months:

• November: $27.14 million (record at the time)
• December: $28.95 million (new record)
• January: $28.94 million

FanDuel creating space as Michigan’s No. 2 online casino

While BetMGM Michigan Casino has established itself as the clear online casino leader in the state (37.2% of market share), FanDuel is battling it out with DraftKings Casino MI for the second slot.

FanDuel has the slight advantage in all-time revenue ($472.3 million to $459.1 million). Signs also indicate that the gap is starting to widen.

In 2021, FanDuel had a narrow victory over DraftKings for year-long revenue. FanDuel came in at $184.7 million, while DraftKings finished at $184.5 million.

In 2022, FanDuel came through with $258.7 million in revenue compared to DraftKings’ $248.4 million.

FanDuel won the head-to-head monthly matchup with DraftKings in eight of the 12 months of 2022 as well.

January got FanDuel off to a good start in 2023 as well. FanDuel’s $28.94 million in revenue was well ahead of DraftKings’ $26.24 million. That was actually a record month for DraftKings as well.

FanDuel Casino success goes beyond Michigan

FanDuel Casino’s success hasn’t been limited to Michigan. After finishing with 17% of the U.S. revenue share in Q4 of 2021, it is projecting to finish at 20% by Q4 of 2023.

Flutter Entertainment, which owns FanDuel, indicated that it realized it wasn’t providing the best online product it could in the early part of Michigan’s launch.

“We are our hardest critic,” said Flutter CEO Peter Jackson during the Q4 earnings call. “When we looked at the quality of our products in the States, we knew it was not good enough. We have made some improvements to it, but there’s a lot more we’re going to bring to the market.”

Two of the big additions that FanDuel has brought into is product is the FanDuel Rewards Machine and daily jackpots.

The Rewards Machine is a daily free spin on a rewards and bonus wheel. FanDuel indicated that the machine has helped increase casino player days by 1.5X.

Daily jackpots are progressive jackpot slots that have to be awarded by 11 p.m. ET each day. Recent jackpots have been over $30,000.
