Greektown, MGM Grand, MotorCity Casinos Ditching Mask Requirements In Detroit

On the day when all outdoor pandemic restrictions have been lifted in Michigan, Detroit casinos are also ditching a mask mandate.

Greektown Casino, MotorCity Casino and MGM Grand Detroit announced all fully vaccinated people can enter without a mask as of Tuesday. No proof of the shots is required.

The changes are allowed by an updated executive order from the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

According to changes from the state’s health and human services department on Tuesday, restaurants also can increase capacity from 25% to 50%. Furthermore, varieties of common areas such as pool tables and dance floors can reopen. Outdoor capacity restrictions for outings such as Detroit Tigers games are also being lifted.

In addition, offices are also reopening across the state without mask requirements for fully vaccinated workers.

Several of Michigan’s 23 tribal casinos also have allowed for customers to enter without masks, including one more as of Tuesday.

Bay Mills Casino joins other tribal casinos in mask repeal

Also Tuesday, Bay Mills Casino in Brimley became the latest of Michigan’s tribal casinos to no longer require fully vaccinated customers to wear masks.

The casino announced that it will “respectfully request” unvaccinated players to continue wearing a mask. Complimentary masks will be available at the Upper Peninsula casino.

Here is the list of Michigan casinos that have repealed the mask mandate:

  • Bay Mills Casino, Brimley
  • FireKeepers Casino, Battle Creek
  • Four Winds Casinos, Dowagiac, Hartford and New Buffalo
  • Greektown Casino, Detroit
  • Gun Lake Casino, Wayland
  • Island Resort Casino, Harris
  • Leelanau Sands, Peshawbestown
  • Little River Casino, Manistee
  • MGM Grand Detroit, Detroit
  • MotorCity Casino, Detroit
  • Odawa Casinos, Petoskey and Mackinaw City
  • Saganing Eagles Landing, Standish
  • Soaring Eagle, Mount Pleasant
  • Turtle Creek, Williamsburg

Additionally, Ojibwa Casinos in Baraga and Marquette allow you to take your mask off if you’re seated at a slot machine.

Beyond the relaxation on the Detroit casinos’ mask mandate situation, all capacity limits and any outstanding masks orders are set to expire July 1, beginning a so-called “full reopen” of Michigan.
