So much so, that the rebuilding Pistons bought out a year-plus of his remaining contract this month to let him walk. The Pistons were on the hook for $56.5 million, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, but Griffin agreed to forfeit $13.3 million to become a free agent.

He signed with Brooklyn, teaming with Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant and James Harden in his quest to win a championship. Now, Griffin returns to Detroit for the first time since then.

Griffin’s addition helps fortify the Brooklyn bench, but the earlier trade for Harden from the Houston Rockets gave the Nets’ title hopes a lift-off.

The Nets became a strong No. 2 for title odds across the board after the trade, according to Chris Sheridan of The Lines.

At Fox Bet, the Nets are now the favorites at +250, with the odds boosted on another special at +275. The defending champion Los Angeles Lakers are at +290 (also currently boosted to +333).
