Greektown Casino Hotel Getting New Name: Hollywood Casino At Greektown

Greektown Casino-Hotel announced on Monday that it will be renamed Hollywood Casino at Greektown starting Sunday, May 1.

The announcement came from Penn National Gaming, the operator for Greektown.

Along with the name change, Penn National announced a $30 million renovation of the hotel and casino.

Hollywood Casino at Greektown celebrating throughout May

Greektown Casino-Hotel is a 100,000 square-foot gaming, entertainment and dining facility with a 30-story hotel in downtown Detroit. The change to Hollywood Casino at Greektown is subject to customary regulatory approvals.

“Becoming Hollywood Casino at Greektown will offer our guests the best of both worlds: we’re keeping all of the unique, neighborhood charm that has defined Greektown since we opened our doors, while adding several new amenities that come with being a part of Penn National’s flagship brand family,” said John Drake, general manager of Hollywood Casino at Greektown. “Whether you’re a regular, loyal guest or a first-time visitor, we’ll have something new and improved for you to experience and enjoy.”

To celebrate the rebranding, Hollywood Casino at Greektown will be hosting a pair of red-carpet themed private VIP and community special events. They will be held:

• Thursday, May 19th 5-9 p.m.
• Saturday, May 21st 6-11 p.m.

The events will include entertainment, refreshments, and chances to win prizes. Included in the prizes are:

• Luxury cruises
• Trips to Las Vegas
• A Mercedes-Benz lease
• Free slot play for all MyChoice Rewards program guests

Hollywood Casino at Greektown will also make a $10,000 charitable contribution to Greektown Neighborhood Partnership.

What will be new at Hollywood Casino at Greektown?

Along with the rebranding, Hollywood Casino at Greektown has a lot of renovations planned.

There is a new 1,200-square foot hotel lobby that will welcome overnight guests. Included in the lobby is a cocktail bar and total redesign of all 400 of its rooms and suites. That project is expected to be completed in the coming months.

All of the property’s carpets, hallways, elevator vestibules and other common areas have received a floor-to-ceiling refresh as well. The facility has further underscored guest comfort and safety with the implementation of a new best-in-class HVAC system.

New Food Offerings

Hollywood Casino at Greektown will be home to several other new food and beverage offerings. They include:

• Urban Cocktail and Rock Bar lounges and a new, upscale Dunkin’ concept in the hotel lobby.
• The Monroe Market food hall will include a new Detroit Taco Company location.
• New menus awaiting at the property’s steakhouse, Prism, created under the direction of Chef Petro Drakopoulos.

Technology Upgrades

Gaming and parking will be made easier at Hollywood Casino at Greektown thanks to exclusive technology upgrades to both systems.

The property will be the first casino in Michigan to offer a new cashless, cardless feature – MyWallet – within its mobile MyChoice rewards app that allows guests to connect to slot machines and table games with their phone.

The bluetooth-connected technology allows guests to add funds, collect winnings, earn tier points and more. All transactions can be done through a personal mobile device, without the need to carry cards or cash.

Players will still be able to use traditional options while playing their favorite games.

More than $1 million has been invested into improvements to the casino’s self-park and VIP parking garages.

The VIP Garage is a newly-remodeled 700+ space garage with no public access. This garage is dedicated solely for the casino’s higher-tier level players and is connected directly to the upper-level gaming floor.

VIP guests will still have the option to self-park or valet in the garage. The garage technology also features player card integration, moving walkways and a state-of-the-art license plate recognition system, which will allow for seamless entry and exit.

Detroit Music Hall to remain entertainment host

For the 2022-23 season, Hollywood Casino at Greektown has extended its partnership agreement with the Detroit Music Hall.

This season, show listings include the likes of Michael Bolton, Wanda Sykes, Boyz II Men, Jim Brewer and more.

“Hollywood is coming to Detroit, and we’re ready to roll out the red carpet for our visitors and guests,” said Drake. “Its Tinsel Town meets Greektown.”

History of Greektown Casino

Greektown Casino opened in 2000 under the majority ownership of Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. In 2009, the hotel was officially opened alongside the casino after construction began in 2006.

In 2008, Greektown Superholding, Inc. and Greektown Newco Sub Inc., two investor groups, acquired the casino hotel after the Sault St. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.

Rock Gaming, owned by Dan Gilbert, agreed to buy a majority stake in Greektown Casino Hotel in January of 2013. Rock Gaming was rebranded as Jack Entertainment and planned to rename Greektown “Jack Detroit Casino-Hotel Greektown” in 2016. However, the plans were canceled in March 2018 when Gilbert agreed to sell the casino for $1 billion.

In May of 2019, Vici Properties and Penn National Gaming jointly bought Greektown from Jack Entertainment.

Penn National operates 44 properties in 20 states, as well as online sports betting in 13 jurisdictions.

Currently, Hollywood Casino at Greektown is partnered with Barstool Sportsbook for its retail and online sports betting, as well as its online casino product.
