Cheboygan County Man Claims Biggest Instant Game Prize In Michigan Lottery History

Written By Paul Costanzo on July 15, 2022

The biggest instant game in Michigan Lottery history has already produced a record-setting winner.

A Cheboygan County man recently won $6 million playing the Michigan Lottery’s new $300,000,000 Diamond Riches instant game. It’s the largest prize ever offered — and now won — in Michigan.

“It’s really unreal to be sitting here collecting $6 million,” the player, who chose to remain anonymous, said in a release. “I haven’t stopped shaking since I scratched the ticket off.”

Michigan man wins $6 million scratch off prize

The winning ticket was purchased at Vanderbilt Downtown EZ Mart, located at 8114 Mill Street in the northern Michigan town of Vanderbilt. A one-time, lump sum payment of approximately $4.1 million was how the winner decided to accept his winnings, rather than 30 annuity payments for the full amount.

He plays to take a trip to Disneyland, then save the remainder, according to the release.

“I heard about the new $50 ticket and told my friend I was going to buy one on pay day,” he said. “I didn’t think I would actually win the top prize, but I still wanted to try it. We stopped at the store on the way to work so that I could buy one and I scratched it when I got in my car. When I saw I had won the $6 million prize, I started shaking and showed my friend. We were both freaking out!”

Diamond Riches already paying out millions

The ticket was one of three $6 million winners available in the game. More than $14 million in prizes has already been won playing $300 Million Diamond Riches, which was released in early July.

Prizes range from $50 up to the $6 million top prize. Each ticket is $50, and they are available at lottery retailers around the state.

There is more than $317 million in prizes still out there, including the two top prizes and more than 90 winners of $50,000.

Non-winning tickets are also eligible to enter a second-chance drawing, which pays up to $100,000. Players can scan their losing ticket on the Michigan Lottery mobile app by Nov. 13, 2022, to enter.

Ten second-chance drawings will be held, and each will award one $100,000 winner, five $10,000 winners, 20 $1,000 winners and 60 $500 winners.
