Sports Illustrated Casino Launches, Filling 15th License In Michigan

Sports Illustrated Casino MI launched Tuesday, filling the 15th Michigan online casino license.

The Michigan Gaming Control Board approved 888 Holdings’ VHL Michigan LLC as the new online casino provider for the Hannahville Indian Community.

Already operating SI online sportsbook in Michigan, the Sports Illustrated brand is now operating an online casino for Island Resort & Casino as well.

SI Casino Michigan launched at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

What does SI Casino Michigan offer?

Sports Illustrated online casino has a wide array of gaming offers upon launch.

• Live Dealer games at SI Casino: 15 games (poker, roulette, blackjack, baccarat, live slots)
• Table Games at SI Casino MI: 16, including video poker
• Slots at SI Casino Michigan: 342 games
• SI Casino Exclusive Games: 53

SI Casino MI launches five months after TwinSpires closes

The launch of SI Casino ends a five-month run where the Hannahville Indian Community was without a Michigan online casino.

Originally partnered with TwinSpires, the previous online operator chose to cease its online casino and sportsbook operations on Sept. 6 of last year.

Hannahville, which operates Island Resort & Casino, chose 888 Holdings to become its new online sportsbook operator through the Sports Illustrated brand. That began on Sept. 7.

However, 888 Holdings didn’t have an online casino license in Michigan at the time to be able to launch a Sports Illustrated casino operation as well.

“I wish the Hannahville tribe continued success as they once again may offer their customers both internet gaming and internet sports betting in Michigan,” said Henry Williams, MGCB executive director in a press release.

SI Sportsbook seeing growth in Michigan

Hannahville was able to launch both the TwinSpires online casino and sportsbook on Michigan’s launch date of Jan. 22, 2021.

SI Sportsbook MI has seen steady growth in Michigan since launching in early September. It has increased in online handle each month, topping out at $1.66 million in December of 2022.

It also recorded $261,568 in revenue in December, the highest total for Hannahville since November of 2021 when it was still with TwinSpires.

Prior to ceasing operations, TwinSpires made $22.5 million in online casino revenue through Sept. 7 of 2021.
